# How to use Captioneer

**Captioneer** creates automatic, dynamic subtitles — by transcribing your timeline and creating .mogrts.

<figure><img src="/files/4y05QhLOtCMbJ0UJtzjr" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Captions are customizable inside the Premiere Pro timeline. This enables rapid iteration during the editing process.

1. Transcribe your timeline
2. Edit footage, captions, and .mogrts
3. Style fonts, colors, and more in the Properties Panel

# What the heck is a Mogrt?

<figure><img src="/files/CnxQfd9uvCAIzP4117gB" alt="" width="188"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

A .mogrt is a "Motion Graphics Template" file.&#x20;

Animations are built within Adobe After Effects, exported as a .mogrt file, and customized within Adobe Premiere Pro.

{% hint style="warning" %}
.mogrts are not compatible with DaVinci Resolve, Avid, or any other NLE.
{% endhint %}

# Auto Captions

## Captioneer Templates

Captioneer .mogrts are saved in the **Local Templates** folder and organized in subfolders: Landscape, Portrait, Square.

## Local Templates folder

The default Motion Graphics Templates directory for Premiere Pro is called the "**Local Templates"** folder. Any .mogrts installed with the Graphics Templates panel land in this folder.

# Scale to Frame Size

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9aSXkEbcMY>" %}

Premiere Pro has 3 settings to auto-scale clips in the timeline: **None**, **Scale to frame size**, and **Set to frame size**. This setting is located in Premiere Pro's Preferences (Settings > Media > Default Media Scaling).&#x20;

![](/files/mnhvMDeIjeB2XuQP3ENf)&#x20;

For best results using Captioneer, set Premiere Pro's Default Media Scaling to **None** and use the checkbox inside the extension.

![](/files/9zF43F8LnUqYsfcDQVYK)

If you enable both Premiere Pro's Default Media Scaling and Captioneer's scaling, your .mogrts may get scaled twice.

# Overwrite

If there are clips on the selected video track, ask to confirm before overwriting with new .mogrts.

# Undo History

### Max undo levels

During installation we automatically increase the number of Premiere Pro Undo Levels to **1,000**. Captioneer can process hundreds of actions at once, and increasing the Undo Levels (aka the **History**) helps smoothly undo / redo those actions.

You can modify this number at any time and it will take effect after restarting Premiere.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/RhvhHEJJ2vWgwyokWoet" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

* **Japanese** - Always set Captioneer to Japanese

# Run Scripts (.jsx)

Captioneer can execute script files (.jsx) in Premiere Pro. Simply drag + drop the .jsx file onto the panel, and the script will automatically run. This is extremely powerful for workflow automation.

# Fonts

Captioneer syncs fonts for captions to appear correctly. If the graphics are not appearing correctly on your machine, you can manually install fonts from the resources below.

## Google Fonts

Captioneer syncs from [Google Fonts](https://fonts.google.com) to seamlessly work across any computer. If these fonts do not appear on your machine, you can download them.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How can I copy Effect Controls &#x26; MOGRT settings?</summary>

</details>

<details>

<summary>Fonts aren't appearing.</summary>

A Yellow T symbol on the .mogrt thumbnail inside the Graphics Templates panel means the default .mogrt font is not synced to your computer.

![](/files/sRUr61X99zqLZ9AxsoNC)

Captioneer .mogrts auto-sync fonts from Google & [Adobe Fonts](https://fonts.adobe.com/), and allows manual syncing.

1. Go to Graphics Templates and drag the .mogrt onto the timeline. Auto-sync process will begin in Creative Cloud app.
2. You can hit the "i" icon in bottom-right to see the name of the missing font. Close Premiere Pro, install the font, and reopen.
3. See [Fonts](/setup/install/fonts) for the full list of fonts used in Captioneer MOGRTs.

<img src="/files/HTaLPog2Vgz9YehiwE1e" alt="" data-size="original">

</details>

<details>

<summary>It's not working for my language.</summary>

Use the Font dropdown inside the .mogrt to change the font that supports your chosen language (i.e Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, etc). For example, use a "CJK" font for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages.&#x20;

</details>

<details>

<summary>My text is cut off on the sides.</summary>

Watch [Filters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvaJK4hKLHQ) video.

Choose a .mogrt that matches your Sequence dimensions. Captioneer comes with Landscape 16:9, Portrait 9:16, and Square 1:1 .mogrts and Filters to show/hide them.

</details>

<details>

<summary>My text is incorrectly showing upper/lowercase letters.</summary>

![](/files/raDr0doUfroFUuySRKzP)

Mismatching upper/lowercase letters are a font glitch in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. Manually uninstall + reinstall your font.

Then quit Premiere Pro and manually delete your media cache:

<https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/clear-cache.html>

Default Media Cache file locations:

* **Mac:** `~`*`/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common`*
* **Windows:** *`\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common`*

</details>

<details>

<summary>How can I speed up Captioneer processing?</summary>

Edit locally. All footage, .mogrts, project files, and cache files should be on SSD or NVME drives for the best performance.

* Check [Puget Systems](https://www.pugetsystems.com/solutions/video-editing-workstations/adobe-premiere-pro/hardware-recommendations/) for info on optimizing Premiere Pro

{% hint style="info" %}
Speed depends on your specific hardware. Captioneer is fastest on Mac M1+ machines or Windows machines running NVIDIA GPUs.
{% endhint %}

</details>

<details>
